Roger Weeks Sings Of Love’s Purgatory In Melancholy New Single ‘Feels Like Treason’

Where the backwoods of New Hampshire meet the lakeshore; the crickets sing, campfires crackle, and crisp leaves crunch under your sneakers. In this landscape, inspired by nature’s music, Roger Weeks’ bedroom-pop folk songs were born.

“Feels Like Treason,” Weeks’ latest single, hit streaming services February 12th, and according to Weeks is “the opposite of a love song– it’s a song about that cold moment when you realize a breakup is inevitable.” He elaborates, “This song isn’t about finding a resolution or breaking up; it’s about still being in love and feeling trapped in a relationship that you know is doomed.”

The new single has a melancholy and slightly eerie vibe, offering a heart-wrenching bass line and a chorus with a building harmony, swelling and falling with his voice. Weeks’ vocal dynamics closely follow his lyrics, painting a changing picture, much like a changing season. “I wonder where the feeling went / All the leaves have turned dead again / I’m a sucker for a love song / I only feel it when you’re gone,” he sings.

The song is a coming of age story, and resonates with the ongoing winter. An isolated and “doomed” relationship can often chill your bones, like the dread of a coming cold. It’s the feeling of needing fresh air but being too scared to step outside.

“To me that feeling feels like a barren yet sparkling, snowy winter New England night and the creation of ‘Feels Like Treason’ was heavily inspired by that image,” Weeks says.

Weeks’ 2021 singles “Alone Is Better,” “I Hate You” and “wrong but worth it” went TikTok viral and brought him to the masses. His debut single, “IRON,” landed a primetime placement on Showtime’s season finale of Shameless

In 2022, the LA-based songwriter began writing and recording his debut album, challenging himself by pushing his own lyrical boundaries. Facing grief, his sexuality, gender identity, body dysmorphia, and love, Weeks is ready to let it all hang out. His 2023 singles, “North Dakota,” “i think i love u” and a sad girl cover of “Come Clean,” by Hillary Duff, all made waves.
