Asleep at the Wheel with special guest Emily Nenni will be performing at Harken Hall on Saturday, September 26 at 7:00 P.M.
In 1974, Asleep at the Wheel moved from the Bay Area to Austin, Texas, where they became a now-iconic band representing Texas and Western Swing. The band’s whopping 32nd record, Riding High In Texas, features Ian Stewart and Ray Benson, the band’s leader and original member. This marks their first new release since their 50th Anniversary project, Half A Hundred Years, in 2021. Stewart says, “Just like the State of Texas and Asleep at the Wheel, this album is bold, soulful and rooted in a rich heritage guaranteed to keep toes tappin’!”
The record blends well-known Texas tunes like George Strait’s anthem “All My Exes (Live in Texas)” to Guy Clark’s “Texas Cookin’.”
Joining Asleep at the Wheel is the California-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter Emily Nenni, who welcomes everybody to the dance floor with her honky tonkin’ traditional country appeal. Her latest album, Movin’ Shoes, incorporates themes of how we treat one another and how we treat ourselves. She cites Sly Stone and Linda Ronstadt’s Motown covers as specific influences, but the old styles sound fresh and current, as her personality and charisma come through in every note.
It promises to be a memorable night of Western Swing mixed with a honky tonk appeal.
