Artist Spotlight: Maryland Indie Pop Rock Group Ebb & Nova Have A Secret Ingredient

There are no shortage of indie pop rock bands.

But it takes some creativity to stand out from all the others. Enter Ebb & Nova.

Along with the magnetic vocals of lead singer Lauren Padgett, the Maryland band’s secret ingredient is their cellist, Steven Bainbridge, who adds a less heard element to their unique sound.

Ebb & Nova have developed a reputation for creatively blending indie rock with pop and folk elements, establishing their own brand of infectious melodies and eclectic songwriting. Initially formed as a duo by Padgett and Matthew Purpora (guitar), Ebb & Nova now includes Pat Brynes (percussion) and again the talents of Bainbridge.

Beyond being partners on stage, the four share a tight bond of friendship and fun that translates to their live performances, keeping audiences engaged and entertained.

Since releasing their debut album in 2017, Ebb & Nova has opened for notable groups such as Good Charlotte, Gin Blossoms, Lewis Watson, Smash Mouth, and O-Town, while playing major festivals and stages like The Maryland State Fair, Baltimore Soundstage, Fells Point Fun Fest, Power Plant Live!, Artscape, Sandjam Fest, and more.

In 2021, the band’s second album, Night Sounds, was released to a sold out crowd. The album showcases Padgett’s mesmerizing vocals, and beautiful cello and guitar melodies. The band’s single, “100 Beats,” received nationwide radio airplay and thousands of music video views.

Ebb & Nova’s most recent releases include their 2025 singles “Call Me Queen” and “Coming Back Home.”

Today, the band continues to work on new material and turn over their next leaf. Veterans of the Maryland music scene, Ebb & Nova cherishes each opportunity to perform for their dedicated fanbase, and continue to hone their unique sound.
