They’re sonic sailors, sirens, vintage-sounding songstresses and much in between.
And if you’re looking for a modern sound that captures the essence of Golden Age groups like The Ronettes, The Supremes, The Shirelles, and so forth, look no further than The Lostines.
The Big Easy-based Americana soul duo captures a particular sound that’s lost in an eternal dreamy haze, luring listeners in with their impeccable harmonies and simple yet magnetic grooves.
Their alternative traditional country-leaning sound is entrancing and ever significant in their newest single, “After Party.” The track is the final release before the they drop their anticipated debut album, Meet the Lostines, which is set to hit streaming services this Friday, April 26th.
Led by Casey Jane Reece-Kaigler and Camille Wind Weatherford, the duo sings in a consistent and hypnotizing harmony about a party that no one wants to see the end of, specifically as it pertains to a love interest. “Tomorrow you’re driving away / But I’ll get you back in my arms someday, I pray,” the chorus croons. The track is completed with a romantic pedal steel and a feel-good fiddle, creating an easy, freewheelin’ energy. The piano offers a subtle and vintage touch, encapsulating a true down-home Americana sound.
The song harkens to the feeling of not wanting the good times to end, and not wanting the sun to rise, because that would indicate the cloud nine fun is over. “Kiss me once before you go / Tonight you’re the only thing that I want to know,” the duo sings longingly. The lyricism captures that beautiful scenario where the whole world fades away, your troubles included, and all you’re left with is a person of interest and a sticky-sweet feeling of contentment.
“After Party” follows their previous singles, “Full Moon Night”, and “Neon Lights.” The new album was recorded and mixed by Ross Farbe.
On Meet The Lostines, there’s rarely a melody that the two don’t sing together, as they’ve built a reputation for stacking their lush harmonies. This against a backdrop of baritone guitar, spring reverb, orchestral strings, Cajun fiddle, upright piano, and Theremin creates a unique sound not often heard these days.
The Lostines have announced that they are playing Winnipeg Folk Fest this coming July, along with the East Austin Block Party, and other gigs in the near future. They have their album release party this Saturday April 27th at The Saturn Bar in New Orleans.
