PREMIERE: The Weird Sisters Offer Nostalgic Glimpse At Life On The Road In New Video Single ‘Waiting So Long’

9 hours and 49 minutes. That’s how long it takes to drive from Dallas to Nashville (at least from where I sit). For some, that may sound like a dreadful eternity, but for those in the music world (or truckers), it ain’t so bad. Well, depending.

Nashville’s DIY indie rockers The Weird Sisters recently made the trek, and decided to capture that experience on a Panasonic Omnimovie video camera. The result is their new music video for their single, “Waiting So Long,” offering a brief but fun glimpse into their expedition from The Lone Star State back to Music City, covering ground in Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Through a vintage lens, the duo cuts together snippets of highway, cityscape, obscure signage, slot machines, whiskey bottles, and just good old fashioned shenanigans. It’s a portrait of peak American road warrior adventure and freedom, and those who’ve ever endured in a lengthy spanning trip can relate.

The song itself overlays fittingly, with swiftly sung verses coupled with the catchy and melancholic “Waiting So Long” chorus. The frenetic percussion drives the song, just as the duo cruises part of America’s precious southern states.

“On a road trip back to Nashville from Dallas, we stopped every few miles when something caught our attention. Passing the camera back and forth led to hours of Midwestern impressionism,” says The Weird Sisters. “We filled up a whole tape, but unfortunately this is the shortest song we have ever recorded. It was our first time in that part of the country. Really good steak.”

The wizards behind The Weird Sisters — Gabrielle Lewis and Izaac Short — have created a musical partnership that is a testament to opposites attracting. Short’s funk-infused guitar and heavy hitting vocals combined with Lewis’s ethereal soul-melting keyboards and saxophone creates a musical synergy that defies convention.

The video for “Waiting So Long” acts as a fun and fleeting promo for their upcoming “space disco” album, Who Are The Weird Sisters? due out February 3rd.
