Get To Know: British Alt-Rockers Slung Release 90s-Nostalgia Debut Video Single ‘Neurotic’

Maybe it takes ten years; maybe it takes a few months, but sometimes, “overnight” success can strike at any time.

Racking up a loyal following after making their debut across Europe in early 2024, British indie-alt-rock band Slung saw their September 12th, 2024 debut release, “Neurotic,” run crowds wild, while paying an insightful ode to mental health. painting lyricism and instrumentation with clear emotional depth. The track was recorded by Small Pond Studios in Brighton, UK.

Dancing with the perceptions and experiences that come with OCD, the song speaks on an innate wish for control in the everyday facets of life. Mellow grunge guitar, brooding bass, and driving percussion follow the mental image oozing from the lyrics to melodically embody the ebbs and flows of one’s own mind. “But what can I say / The paranoia’s sublime,” rings frontwoman Katie Oldham’s vocals, oozing with hypnotizing Cranberries-like clarity.

Dave Neal and Jordan Kai-Smith’s cinematography, along with James Eldridge’s editing, brought “Neurotic” its perfect edge in the track’s music video, co-released with the streaming master.

Beginning with an anxiety-inducing therapy session, the audiovisual shows Oldham slowly open up in colorful waves before reaching an aweing monochrome apogee that leads the song to its falling end.

A co-production involving Small Pond, The Hope and Ruin’s Halloween Cover Party is set to exhibit Slung’s diverse sonic elements with a ripping Limp Bizkit set. With just one other released track, “Laughter – Live @ Shaken Oak” — an explosive jive with experimental timing — Slung is setting off on their second tour of the year, covering England, Spain, and the UK with a unique Sonic Youth and Cocteau Twins-reminiscent soundscape that audiences seem to not get enough of already.
