Sometimes songs get written that unexpectedly emerge out of very ordinary moments, and that is exactly what happened with singer-songwriter Neil Micheal Anderson’s latest single, “Say You Would.”
In the new Americana-rooted track, Anderson sings about learning to move with the change that life brings, and getting to love other people along the way. Written in the span of about 20 minutes, the song was inspired by a night out, where memories were shared, old friends reconnected, and new friends were made.
After he went home and wrote the tune, he knew he wanted to enlist producer Rob Stroup to help in bringing it to life. The single displays a vast repertoire of resonating, bright instrumentation that comes together to give that reflective country blend. The acoustic and electric guitars work seamlessly with the organ, and Anderson’s vocals are striking and strong.
As many are, Anderson is often inspired by experiences and places in his life that compel him to pick up the pen. The first single on his modest discography, “What’s Your Truth?,” was inspired by a trip he made to the town of Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico.
Feeling welcomed by the residents during his long winter stay, he became inclined to write a song inspired by the town’s unique name. The song was recorded at Taproot Studios in Truth Or Consequences, and went on to win a “Best Production Music Award” for the 2024 New Mexico Music Awards.
His music, which is typically a blend of country-rock, folk-rock, and ambient psychedelic rock, is often curated to create that “big sky power ballad.” With the ability to weave a variety of poignant lyrical themes in his music coupled with top notch instrumentation and production, Anderson has a good thing going, which he describes as “classic Americana crossed with an impressionistic painting.”
“Say You Would,” which is currently available on all streaming platforms, offers that contemporary Americana magic that listeners might be looking for, and might even inspire them to soak in the ordinary that’s all around, and make something special out of it.
