Motivated by their mission to support opportunities for women and girls, powerhouse female group Della Mae knows a thing or two about empowerment.
Founded by Kimber Ludiker, the Grammy-nominated band has made a name for themselves with layers of rich vocals combined with lively bluegrass accompaniment from Celia Woodsmith, Avril Smith, Vickie Vaughn, and Maddie Witler. Each of the five women brings their own unique musical stylings to the group, contributing to their distinct sound.
The band maintains a strong belief in advocacy for women, hoping to restore female talent to a more rightful position. Motivated by their mission, the women of Della Mae attribute their success to a “lack of inhibition” when it comes to decisions in the music industry, as described by vocalist and guitarist Woodsmith.
Their latest album, Family Reunion, dropped this past summer, and as the title suggests, this album highlights the band’s challenges of being apart during the pandemic and celebrates their return to recording together.
Understanding the need for more versatile listening options, Della Mae released a video concert called Stonecroft Sessions. The on-demand concert features live performances combined with conversational clips of the band between songs. Recorded amidst beautiful scenery in Northern Virginia, it allows fans to experience the magic of this group from virtually anywhere.
The band is currently on tour in the United States through October, and has several shows in the United Kingdom this August.
This weekend the talented quintet will be bringing their sound to the beautiful Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland, Maryland, for the acclaimed music festival, DelFest. The group with be performing at 1:00 PM this Saturday on the Grandstand Stage, and again on Sunday at 3:05 PM on the Potomac Stage. You can find the full schedule here.
