DeeOhGee Fires Off Barn Burnin’ Countrified Gem With A Hopeful Message In New Single ‘Better Days’

The boys of DeeOhGee have rattled speakers far and wide with their brand of vintage Americana rock n’ roll, and have returned with a more down-home barn burnin’ country banger with their latest single, “Better Days.”

Though “Better Days” features an old school uptempo country appeal, the band’s appreciation for a full range of sound and lyrics which embrace all aspects of human existence remains vibrant. With a home base in Nashville, the band describes themselves as a group “of people – for the people,” as their Instagram bio proclaims, and with this mission in mind, they join multi-genre instrumentals and resonating lyrics to create tracks to inspire and bring together.

“Better Days” has a magnetic countrified pull from the jump, kicking the song into gear with a fun, rollicking fiddle-led melody that flows throughout the track. Lead singer Matthew Paige’s vocals feature a familiar cosmic country twang with a Gram Parsons-like flair that breathes life into the song as he sings the chorus, “Oh how I long for better days / I got lost / Faking my way,” lyrics that ring true for anyone who has felt trapped in their own perception.

With the minds of Paige, Zack Murphy (drums), and Dylan Whitlow (bass) combined, even this most familiar of country songs feels unique and full-bodied with heavy driving instrumentation and the blending of voices.

Formerly known as Blackfoot Gypsies, DeeOhGee has curated a dedicated fanbase with their vintage vibe and sound, appealing to listeners who enjoy how the contributions of each band member creates a well-rounded, diverse listening experience.

The band is also known and admired for putting their own efforts into every step of the process; avoiding studio musicians, the band records every instrument and vocal themselves, adding to their accessible, home-grown spirit.

“Better Days” is the band’s first single of 2024, and follows their Halloween 2023 single, “NaNaNa.” Their latest track seems to serve as a landmark for this point in DeeOhGee’s journey, expanding and exploring their sound into more country and grassroots realms while not losing their rock essence.

“Yeah I’m headed home / I guess I’m better off alone / Oh I hear the change of sound / As you call my name aloud / And all that love I thought I knew / Just left town / So I will too,” goes the song, filling the upbeat sound with words which reach deep. It’s another DeeOhGee banger that gets better with each listen.
