Award-Winning Americana Songwriter Julian Taylor Drops New Single ‘Seeds’ With Album To Follow

“They tried to bury us / But they didn’t know we were seeds.”

This resonating lyric sung by singer-songwriter, Julian Taylor on his latest single “Seeds,” illustrates the depth and poetry the Toronto artist is known for.

Released on June 24th, the track was inspired by the beginning stages of the pandemic in Canada, along with a flurry of other societal atrocities that particularly affected the BIPOC community. Taylor wrote “Seeds” about the heavy disheartened feelings everyone was feeling at the time, and hoped to write a song that could universally connect with a broad audience of all races, colors, and creeds.

About the song, Taylor said, “I felt like it didn’t have to be a Black thing, it wasn’t just an Indigenous thing, it was just a human thing that people were feeling, and that song spoke certain overall thoughts of what was going on in everybody’s life.”

A music video for the single is expected to follow soon.

“Seeds” is the first single on Taylor’s forthcoming album, Beyond the Reservoir, which is set to drop on October 14, 2022. About the album, Taylor divulged, “It’s extremely personal like my last record, and I’ve taken that to heart. I’ve realized that by sharing my personal truth and the stories of my life, as they are and were, is a real gift to myself and to others. It’s not easy to love ourselves, and it’s not easy to love in general. I have a difficult time with it, and as I shed my own skin to reveal that kind of vulnerability, I find it connects me to the human experience in a more meaningful way.”

The upcoming album will feature songs about loss, identity, hope, redemption and more, and “Seeds” is a most endearing lead single to further entice, and we can expect more singles to come.

Taylor’s known for his versatile artistry and seasoned status in the business, as he can deliver a full sound of blues with his band, or flip the script and create more delicate and heartfelt solo folk songs. He has seen tangible success in the form of earning the Solo Artist of the Year honour at the Canadian Folk Music Awards (and nomination in the English Songwriter category), plus two Juno Award nominations in 2021, as well as a Polaris Music Prize nomination. He has had music placed in TV shows such as Degrassi: The Next Generation, Kim’s Convenience, Elementary and other sync placements.

You can check out Julian Taylor on tour in Canada from July 15th – August 7th.
