PREMIERE: Danish Songwriter Trinelise Vaering Perseveres On Soulful New Single ‘I’m Not A Quitter’

Acting as songwriter, composer, lyricist, guitarist, and singer, it seems Danish artist Trinelise Vaering was born to be a leading lady.

The native Danish speaker even runs her own label, teaches songwriting, and produces podcasts. After getting her start amidst the 90s Scandinavian jazz scene, Vaering has spent the last three decades honing her craft and adding to her impressive repertoire.

With a new album on the horizon, the singer’s latest release sets the tone for what is sure to be a passionate collection of tunes. “I’m Not A Quitter” — released today October 4th, 2024 — centers on motifs of empowerment and perseverance, channeling hints of challenges Vaering has faced during her long musical career. Recorded in Vancouver, BC, the music was produced by John Raham.

Inspiration for this tune came from watching an interview of Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards, who took a break from music to open a cafe called Quitters. The word stuck with Vaering, who began to ponder her own relationship to music. Before long, she realized that quitting has never been an option — her determination has always been there.

“I’m Not a Quitter”

Full of twangy acoustic guitar, the instrumentation delivers folksy Americana vibes that mesh well with Vaering’s distinguished vocals. She sings with a kind of authority that makes the listener believe in what she says; and in this case, we aren’t likely to forget her dedication.

This heavy-hitting track is a prelude for her upcoming album, A Songwriter’s Odyssey, which is slated for release on January 31, 2025. For Vaering, this album marks an exploration into the Americana and alt-country genres, reaching beyond her jazz roots. The new track is a testament to her artistic versatility, now spanning an impressive range of genres.

Since 1993, Vaering’s journey has been one creative pursuit after another. Much of her work includes collaborations with jazz saxophonist Fredrik Lundin. Her husband and “musical soulmate,” Lundin has been an essential part of both her life and her music career. March 2022 began another new era for the artist — making music with Tone of Voice Orchestra, who won a Danish Music Award for Vocal Jazz Release of 2022.

TOVO is a 10-piece folk fusion band combining Scandinavian music with that of other cultures. With an impressive 13 albums to her name, a host of other collaborations, and a willing spirit, I think it’s safe to say there is plenty more music to be expected from Vaering in the future.
