JD Casper Counts His Blessings On Americana-Fueled New Single ‘Christmas Day’

Previously a contestant on NBC’s The Voice, alt-country singer-songwriter JD Casper has released his new “holiday” single “Christmas Day,” and to his phrasing, it doesn’t really have all that much to do with the festive season.

The Americana-rock tune is an anthemic take on the usual seasonal music, as Casper croons the lyrics, “I’m just thankful to be alive / Every day that I survive / It feels like it’s Christmas day.” In his own words on the song, Casper states, “It’s not specifically about Christmas or even the season to me. It’s more about a certain perspective I strive to bring to life everyday… Each time we wake up here alive is the ultimate gift, right?”

The new single is upbeat and catchy, bringing a soft mandolin into the instrumentals that adds just a touch of holiday flare behind it. Casper’s smooth yet powerful vocals only aid his message, which is akin to that of the iconic seasonal film, It’s A Wonderful Life.

“Christmas Day”

The singer auditioned for The Voice in its 20th season, making it onto Kelly Clarkson’s team with his cover of The Fray’s “How To Save A Life.” Naturally, this 15-minutes of fame boosted his career, and he would go on to release his first full length album, New Home, earlier this year.

“Christmas Day” captures the message Casper is trying to relay to his fans, portraying that every day can and should be celebrated like it’s Christmas- because you never know when it’s going to be all over. His gratefulness for the life he’s given is infectious through the well-produced track, making it a solid off-the-beaten-path holiday song that can be listened to any time of the year.

Casper has been singing and spreading his music to all who would listen since he was six-years-old, hailing from Austin, Texas, where he currently lives with his family.
