The power of music lies in our ability to connect with the artist and each other. Songwriters — through sharing their own experience — can reach people from all walks of life, helping us through tough times by letting us know we are not alone.
Nashville singer-songwriter Charlie Rogers delivers personal reflection and reaches out to his audience on his latest single, “Missed Calls.” The track hit streaming services on September 17th, 2024.
Born in Oregon and raised in Kansas, Rogers has been singing and writing songs from a young age. The Midwest songwriter aims to make music that communicates the commonalities between us, bridging gaps and reaching out to those that feel invisible and unheard.
Rogers has performed on stages across the U.S. and Europe, opening for artists such as the Osborne Brothers, Russell Dickerson, and Janelle Arthur. He’s also played at the CMA honors ceremonies for the legendary Charley Pride and Ricky Skaggs. He has achieved recent notability with his 2023 single, “When He Was Me,” written by Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay, and was named in the list of Hot 100 Unsigned Artists of 2023 by Music Connection Magazine.
With chilling harmonies and a syncopated electronic beat, “Missed Calls” is a bright pop track about the times in which we shut ourselves out from the people who care about us. Rogers’ vocals are smooth as he sings, “Missed calls, staring at the wall / Crawling deep ‘cause I’d rather not exist at all.”
Feeling overwhelmed and lost in the waves of life, Rogers is speaking not only about his own experience, but is reaching out to the listener, letting them know their struggles are not uncommon and are not insurmountable.
On “Missed Calls,” Rogers carries out his musical mission: extending a hand across rigid boundaries and across long distances to listeners from all backgrounds, forging connections and underlining the struggles that we all face. In the time when we feel isolated, music reminds us that these emotions are universal.
