If you are a listener of Sara Bareilles, Norah Jones, or Carole King, you should definitely have Nashville-based singer-songwriter Katie Pederson on your radar.
Pederson, an international award-winning songwriter, is preparing to release the second single off of her upcoming LP, Limitless, tomorrow January 7th.
The new track, “Lake Louise”, has a very different sound than her first single, “Guard Down.” While “Guard Down” favored a more R&B sound, “Lake Louise”, an ode to the beautiful Lake Louise in Alberta, Canada, takes an acoustic, stripped-down approach. It is a folksy piano ballad with powerful imagery, and is the perfect song to play on a road trip or a rainy day.
When asked about the inspiration behind “Lake Louise”, Pederson says, “A lot of doors had closed for me prior to writing this song, and ‘Lake Louise’ had been a place that seemed like it would hold space for healing. While driving there, I was struck by the beauty of the Rockies in the daylight, while also being surprised by how scared I felt when I was driving through them at night. It seemed like a perfect metaphor for how quickly things had changed for me at that point in my life. When I got there it was this strange contrast of gratitude for being able to experience such beauty, while also realizing I couldn’t run away from the hurt that had led me there.”
Pederson’s raw and emotional songwriting has led her from her Midwest Michigan roots all the way to Music City, landing her many accomplishments, including being on the Nashville Songwriting Association’s “Ones to Watch” list, and her story is only just beginning.
“Lake Louise” will be released tomorrow on all streaming platforms.
