First Look: Nashville Country Alt-Rockers The Southern Gothic To Drop New Music Video For Single ‘Past Midnight’

In their new single, “Past Midnight,” The Southern Gothic wraps up the year with some serious country-rock flair.

With something special in all its verses and the most effortless, seamless transitions between them, The Southern Gothic, along with producer Keith Hetrick with credits such as Pitbull, Charlie Wilson, and Got7, have mastered the art of anticipation with the musical unexpectedness of “Past Midnight.”

“Your lips fit real good against my lips, it’s like we’re on our own island and I could spend my whole life loving you past midnight,” the line at the end of every chorus, echoes on top of the song’s musical climax; the perfect payoff after all the build-up from the steady drums in the verses.

As one of the lead singles for the band’s upcoming EP, Burnin’ Moonlight, anticipation is expected for whatever’s to come for The Southern Gothic.

The video for “Past Midnight,” directed by filmmaker Mil Cannon, is one of the band’s first projects after a four-year hiatus following their previous record.

The band has had anything but a static career prior to the release of their newest single.

When frontman Connor Christian formed The Southern Gothic alongside drummer Shawn Thacker, their home was Atlanta dive bar, Dixie Tavern. Originating solely as a house cover band, they continually put on high energy shows.

They eventually caught the attention of Billboard Magazine, earning them the title of ‘Band on the Verge.’ They would continue to garner Billboard attention with a #1 ranking on its Heatseeker chart, and #17 on its country albums chart for their sophomore album, New Hometown.

The band went on to tour the album all over the world and perform with legendary artists such as Willie Nelson, ZZ Top and Styx, to name a few. Now, after a long break, The Southern Gothic is on the road to reinvention, all while staying true to its roots.

Burnin’ Moonlight, out December 4th, is said to be brand new territory for the band as it takes electrically suave steps into a fresh, modern identity.

With their brand new single, music video, and upcoming EP, The Southern Gothic is making strides to constantly topping themselves with every release. They’ve come a long way since their days passionately paying their dues at Dixie Tavern, and whether they’re in Atlanta or right here in Nashville, they always know how to bring energy into anything they do.
