Multi Grammy-Award winning funk legend Bootsy Collins has announced a forthcoming collaborative compilation album project, Funk Not Fight, associated with Syncr and The Bootsy Collins Foundation.
On his 71st birthday, October 26th, Bootsy released a 60-second teaser of the album title track and new single, “Funk Not Fight”, which will be released on the compilation. Listen to the teaser here.
Bootsy also launched his new Apple Music radio show, featuring guests Morris Day, Bruno Mars, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Flea and Sheila E for a special Birthday Bootsy Extravaganza episode celebrating Funk Not Fight, alongside an episode with Steve Lacy. Listen here now.
The Funk Not Fight project will feature emerging artists, rappers, poets, singers, instrumentalists, who will submit their music to be featured on the album alongside Bootsy and other established guest artists and supporters that include: Lettuce, Buckethead, Zapp, Triggy, Syleena Johnson, Tommy Davidson, Hi-Tek, Deanna Brown, G7, Michael Dyson, Steve Lacy and more.
The Funk Not Fight project is in partnership with Bootsy Collins Foundation, Syncr, The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus, Apple, Spotify, and Tudor Games, with additional partners to be announced. All money raised will go towards initiatives that are in need of financial support, and that are dedicated to helping turn the tide of violence and unrest in our communities.
