The transition into spring often unearths feelings of hope and optimism amidst the dreary winter.
The brothers that make up the duo Amistat express these poignant emotions with their brand new EP, a moment in the sun, which evokes a gentle, peaceful devotion to hope and a lust for life.
Released today March 8th, a moment in the sun is an intimate exploration and celebration of what it means to experience life through the lens of humanity. The Europe-based duo, who skyrocketed in popularity on social media for their cover of Lord Huron’s “The Night We Met,” display a look at their own more raw, personal stories with their album’s subtle messaging.
The aptly named album opens with the title track, a tender introduction to the album that evokes the sensations of an unexpectedly perfect day with its beautiful vocal blend.
The beautifully written title track is followed by the previously released single, “same old eyes,” a mellower track with a heartfelt sway and a gentle guitar buildup. “I see those same old eyes still gleaming / I see those same old eyes still shine / I hope you’ll always remember / That we’re always there / I hope you’ll always remember / You’ll find yourself believing / You will find your reason why,” they croon, comforting the listener and leading towards a satisfying conclusion.
“same old eyes” is followed by third track “seasons,” another single featuring a stripped back beat and twinkling vocals. Simple yet tender describe the EP as a whole, and this track displays this artistic combination with its passionate lyrics that promise “I’m gonna hold on / We’re stronger through the seasons.”
The EP’s final single, “better days,” falls fourth on the album, a darker track which conjures a waterfall of emotion with its heartbeat-esque drums and steady thumps, as well as building passion in through the harmonies. “My mother told my father / We cannot all be together / My father told my mother / Nothing will be here forever,” the folk duo sings, expressing a side to the album which acknowledges the more somber side of things from which hope must persevere.
The final track, “i will,” restores the feelings of bliss and hope to the album with a faster tempo and intimate, near-whispering vocals, accompanied by a tender blend of guitar and piano. Dark becomes light in this song about holding onto belief, evoking sensations of euphoric freedom and peace as well as showing off the band’s full vocal range. The addition of the fiddle to this track adds a special sense of adventure, wonder, and awe that completes the album on an upbeat, whimsical note.
A moment in the sun dares listeners to be bold and present as time passes and seasons change, providing the perfect soundtrack for enjoying a warm day and the mundanity of everyday life with a sense of wonder and appreciation.
