Songwriter-Producer Sophia Streams Offers Introspective Approach On New Multi-Artist Concept EP ‘So In My Head’

Collaboration, connection, and shared experience are vital to LA-based songwriter and producer Sophia Streams. And on her new compilation EP, So In My Head, this is on full display.

Released yesterday, October 10th, 2024, So In My Head is a collaborative concept EP composed and organized by Heather Choate Davis — aka Sophia Streams — featuring five sonically diverse tracks, working alongside nine singers, writers and producers. The EP is about spending time trapped in your own thoughts, doubt, and self-love. Ranging sonically from 80’s pop to light folk to an elegant piano ballad, the EP’s seemingly random assortment of tracks all come together under one theme.

The opening song, “Chasing the Second Hand,” is a bright and punchy synth-pop track performed by Colby Key. The song speaks to those with restless minds, inescapable self-doubt, and the stress of uncertainty. Chronically overthinking, Key sings “I’m ahead and I’m behind / Gotta love this mind of mine.” Sonically unique, the track stands out and shines on the EP.

Serving as the project’s centerpiece, “Mind Like an Airbnb,” is about the space that other people take up in our minds and how we let them control us. With a country twang and delightful harmonies, the live recording of the track is performed by Nick Taylor.

Taylor sings about renting out your mind to other people, letting their opinions change the way you think, “They wanna change the furniture and everything they hate / They’re tearing down the walls for somewhere they will never stay.” The song ends with the realization of the toxicity of letting others control your thoughts. “Time to get this heart of mine out of hospitality.”

The final song, “River of Love,” is sultry and sweet, with elegant piano and smooth vocals from Madison Youch. Offering a closing note of peace, the track is about finding love surrounded by genuine and caring people, “If anyone needs me I’ll be down by the river of love resting my heart in the water.”

Originally working as an advertising copywriter and screenwriter, Davis wrote her book titled Baptism by Fire, which detailed her uplifting experience in the Christian faith. She then felt called to help others find ways to break down obstacles in their lives and grow, obtaining an MA in Theology.

Under the creative vision of Sophia Streams, nine artists worked together on this 5-track EP all speaking to one theme. Each track offers a unique sound and introspective take on the theme of incessant self-reflection. So In My Head offers something for those caught up a little too much in their thoughts.
