With a punchy and driving sound from the jump, Nashville’s own Justin Webb & The Noise capture their own version of modern alt-country rock in their new single, “Desperate Man.”
“Desperate Man” starts with a bang, with a wailing guitar riff and percussion that gets the blood pumping. Webb delivers a vocal performance that is passionate and uninhibited, as he wails in the chorus, “I’m a desperate man / Love me love me love me!” The band holds down steady the energetic electric guitar-driven instrumentation, providing a killer foundation for his vocals to soar.
“‘Desperate Man’ was originally about the end of a relationship that you never wanted to leave,” says Webb. “Someone had left you, but you wanted them to know it was a mistake.” He went on to state, “Over the years, the meaning of the song changed for me. It became more about my relationship with music and wanting to get back out there. Again – just in my own head and wanting to return to something that may have left me behind at some point. We all have goals or relationships (people, art , careers, or whatever) that have ended, and we think, ‘They don’t know what they missed out on. I’ll be back.’”
Along with Webb as the frontman, The Noise is comprised of guitarist Ben Moore, Ben’s brothers Brian and BJay on drums and bass respectively, and co-lead guitarist Will Pettus. The band recorded all together in one room with minimal overdubs and vintage amps, aiming towards capturing a more raw and unified sound.
Along with their single “A Rose to Chew On” released earlier this year, which offers anthemic guitar playing and more impressionable vocals from Webb, “Desperate Man” will be featured on the band’s debut LP Stupid Young, due to come out October 4th, 2024 on Austin-based label Chicken Ranch Records. Recorded at 3 Sirens studio in Nashville, Stupid Young was engineered by Joe Costa and produced by Hayes Carll and Ben Folds’ bassist Jared Reynolds.
Justin Webb and The Noise carry a refreshing and vibrant flair in a musical landscape over-run by overproduced factory-made music. The band’s genuine passion for making music shines, as does their impressive instrumental prowess.
“Desperate Man” is a compelling and exciting look at what’s to come from Justin Webb and The Noise. They will have their record release show at The Basement in Nashville October 10th with Lilly Hiatt.
