Jim Lauderdale Buries The Hatchet In Feel-Good New Single ‘Friends Again’

Among the many who strive to make a name for themselves in the singer-songwriter and country genres, few can only dream of pumping out several albums let alone 35. It’s even more difficult to stand out as a songwriter in Music City.

Enter Jim Lauderdale.

As a nominee for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Class of 2022, Lauderdale is a shining example of what young country artists can only hope to be. And with his brand new single, “Friends Again,” which dropped August 4th, Lauderdale further supplants his epic legacy.

“Friends Again” includes an accompanying lyric video and was released under his label, Sky Crunch Records. As he sings, “I can’t remember what went wrong and I don’t care / I’m sorry for my share / Friends again, friends again”, the delightful feel-good country bop speaks to the compassion and burying of the hatchet that some relationships may require.

This single teases Lauderdale’s upcoming album, Game Changer, which he recorded at Blackbird Studios with the help of producer Jay Weaver, and is scheduled to drop on August 26th. Game Changer features Lauderdale’s long lauded songwriting expertise and easy-on-the-ear contemporary country jams he’s developed a reputation for.

The songwriter’s songwriter has had many big names in the business record his songs, including George Strait, Vince Gill, and Elvis Costello to name a few. His long and arduous road has won him accolades like the Wagonmaster Award from the Americana Music Association and two Grammys for Best Bluegrass Album.

Marking his 35th album release, Lauderdale’s upcoming album demonstrates the bluegrass and Americana roots that make up his artistic identity. Based on the rich harmonies, southern drawl, and twangy guitar from “Friends Again” and the second single off of the record, “That Kind of Life (That Kind of Day)”, we can expect some countrified jams to wrap up the summer.

Lauderdale will be touring from coast to coast this summer up until his final (for now) performance on November 3rd in Los Angeles, California. And like a fine wine, Lauderdale proves he just gets better with age.
