With a pleading in his voice that is hard to ignore, Ian Abel and his band deliver a sense of longing and heartache in their new single, “Stay Here.”
In the deeply emotional track, the couple at hand is seemingly unable to get on the same page, and are embroiled in miscommunication. Each one seems to take what is said out of context, as the narrator is accused of reading too deeply into their relationship, picking things apart, looking for “what’s bound to hurt” them. His partner on the other hand urges him to “Stop digging, boy, and stay here.”
The final moments of the song are a highlight, with the rich and roaring instrumental shining and rattling speakers. Abel’s gravelly and booming voice is of note in the final chorus of the song. His ultimate cries of “stay here” to his partner are passionate and full of emotion, backed by wailing guitar licks and crashing drums.
Abel is an award-winning guitarist who has played lead guitar in Grand Ole Opry member T. Graham Brown’s band, which has taken him on the road and shredding at renowned venues including The Troubadour and Whisky a Go Go in LA. His time spent on the West Coast inspired another notable single from the band titled “California Nights,” released earlier this year.
The Ian Abel Band is made up of touring and session musicians forming together to establish a sound steeped in Southern rock, Americana, and soul, with a dash of country for good measure. Their most-streamed song, “Shoes”, gained global recognition when it was licensed by All Elite Wrestling for a promotional video for the historic fight between Cody & Dustin Rhodes at the company’s inaugural Pay-Per-View event, Double or Nothing. The video was nominated for Best Song/Score in a trailer by the Hollywood Music In Media Awards.
“Stay Here” is for fans of anthemic rock, southern country ballads, and ringing guitar licks. Time will tell what The Ian Abel Band has in store next.
