Singer-songwriter Nick Cain returns with his swingin’ new countrified single, “Everything But Lonely,” which hit streaming yesterday, August 28th, 2025, marking his fifth single release of the year.
Despite the title, the track is anything but a ballad, with its bright, honky tonk-driven groove inviting the listener to shake a leg. The single is built for barroom sing-alongs and small venue stages, and its upbeat rhythm captures a communal joy that runs through Cain’s music, making it a standout in his growing catalog.
Produced by Brandon Bell (Brandi Carlile, Dierks Bentley, Zac Brown Band) and written by Cain with Drew Lawrence, “Everything But Lonely” recognizes the challenges of ending a relationship, but changes the narrative with a perspective of gratitude and freedom. “It’s not anti-relationship—I’m just okay being single,” Cain states. The result is a refreshingly optimistic take on new beginnings.
Cain’s journey into music was an unexpected detour. He previously shared that his path began after his cousin took him to a country fest at the Gorge in Washington, which inspired him to buy his first guitar, continually teaching himself throughout the pandemic, and being able to play 100 songs in six weeks for a Wyoming gig.
Before going into music, Cain’s focus was solely as a real estate developer. While music has become his passion, he still uses his past work to create a better live experience for his audience. With his entrepreneurial spirit helping him along, he owns and operates a live music venue, showcasing other artists with his added experience as an accomplished operator of heavy equipment, and has even built a complete mobile stage.
Cain mentioned that when it comes to music, especially heavy live stages, mastering the art of being yourself will cultivate a core audience, and that it’s a challenge in and of itself. He is currently performing around Washington and Oregon.
