Oftentimes, music helps us form connections with the both the artist and each other.
Austin soul pop singer-songwriter Emma Brooke writes songs that are personal and pointed, yet relatable. Her new single, “Enough of Me,” is a case study in this sentiment, and it officially hit streaming services today, September 27th, 2024.
In “Enough Of Me,” Brooke sings confidently and defiantly about an off-and-on relationship, asserting, “You’ve had enough of me / I gave you everything / That weakness you’ll be looking for / You won’t find like every time before.” It’s a song about freedom and taking back control of your life’s narrative, and breaking free from an emotional rut. “What I love about this song is that it can also apply to a personified habit or even someone’s past,” Brooke states about the song.
She sings this with an air of confidence and pride, delivering energy that is uplifting and encouraging to those listening. The soulful percussive groove guides the track, and Brooke’s jazz lounge-like vocals glide throughout with its powerful chorus.
“Enough of Me” follows Brooke’s debut single, “If You Ever Had A Broken Heart,” released in July of this year.
Brooke has known since she was learning her ABC’s that she wanted to sing and make music. While growing up in West Milford, New Jersey, she found her love of music through the songs her mom played for her, such as Carole King’s Tapestry, and singing in the school choir. She recalls writing her first songs around age 15, and at 19, decided to pack her bags and move some 800 miles away to the neon lit shuffle of Music City.
After a hard-earned eight year stint going through the ups and downs of life in Nashville, Brooke moved to Austin to be closer to family and start a new chapter. “My life in Austin so far has been a season of redefining what music means to me, and learning who I am now,” she states regarding her new path in Texas.
When discussing what success as a songwriter means to her, Brooke stated, “I’ve returned to the concept that success is about creating. Finishing a song for me is like putting a fire extinguisher on a flame. Every idea (that I actually like) creates this burning feeling in my brain until it’s finally written.”
Brooke’s passion and love for making music is apparent in her soulful vocal performance and anthemic songwriting. She is currently enjoying a musically rich life, playing her new releases at gigs around Austin.
