Conor Maynard Copes With Moving On From A Difficult Breakup In Catchy Pop Banger ‘If I Ever’

After taking a surprising social media hiatus, leaving his millions of followers wondering what he was up to, Conor Maynard is back stronger than ever with his explosive new single, “If I Ever.”

He recently confessed the hiatus has been due to an “extremely difficult breakup,” which in fact inspired this latest release- and there’s no lack of emotion and feel behind it. “If I Ever” marks a creative turning point for the artist, as it expresses a difficult personal experience Maynard endured and reflects his newfound confidence.

About the single, Maynard said, “I took the time to pour it all into the only thing that ever seems to help me get through difficult moments – my music.” The track has all the bouncy and bubbly pop grooves fit for a club setting, ripe for getting the listeners singing and dancing, and relating to the message of a tough breakup.

More than a decade ago in 2012, after winning MTV’s Brand New award while competing against artists like Lana Del Rey and Lianne la Havas, Maynard quickly started his rise to recognition. Over the next several years, the artist made countless feats in the music industry, signing to Parlophone Records, earning the mentorship of Ne-Yo, touring across the world, and producing five Top Ten singles, ultimately resulting in over 13 million Youtube subscribers and 2.5 billion views.

That’s saying something.

Then, in 2020, ten years after the release of his debut album, Maynard decided to leave his label and take his career into his own hands. His removal from his label allowed him the freedom to explore new artistic avenues and break boundaries within the industry. This decision led him to not only rack up over 300 million streams in 2021 alone, but travel the world on his biggest tour to date in 2022.

As an artist who rose to fame and gained much of his fan base through the medium of social media, Maynard knows how damaging it can be to pretend to be an inauthentic version of yourself online. So, he decided to take a step back from his online presence and focus on picking up the pieces and expressing himself through song.

He went on to say about the new single, “Sonically, this song is very different from any of my previous work, drawing inspiration from artists like The 1975 and The Weeknd. I collaborated with one of my close friends on this track, writing and scrapping more than 50 songs over the course of a few months before we finally found a way to translate the story in a way that felt authentic to me.”

“If I Ever” is currently out on all platforms as of today, January 20th.
