A Look At JD Casper’s Latest Single ‘Golden Hair’ From His New EP ‘Sing’n Pick’n Cowboy’

With a life-long love for pickin’ and singin’, Americana songwriter JD Casper saw his passion hit the big stage when he landed a spot as a contestant on Season 20 of NBC’s The Voice.

The countrified singer-songwriter auditioned in 2021 with The Fray’s hit, “How to Save a Life,” a genre outside the realm of Casper’s typical musical prowess. “I like music that bleeds emotion,” he states. And his latest single and new EP surely bleeds both emotion and heart.

“Golden Hair,” the February single off of his latest 5-song EP, Sing’n Pick’n Cowboy, feels like sunshine and a warm breeze for the ears. Chock full of canorous instrumental accompaniment and soulful vocals, the song’s lyrics praise a pure and selfless kind of devoted love. Casper croons, “That woman of my dreams has golden hair,” reeling the listener into his vivid world.

From the opening acoustic flourish, “Golden Hair” oozes warmth, as the melody picks up with the song’s progression. Culminating in an enchanting blend of instrumental harmonies, each pluck of a string transports listeners to a golden tinted place. His vocals seem to fall somewhere between Tyler Childers and The Avett Brothers, offering a strong harmonious delivery with back-country flair.

Prior to his audition on The Voice, Casper had already released a slew of original music. Of course, this television debut helped propel his musical journey even further. Tickling the strings and singing since nearly six-years-old, he admits that his grandfather largely inspired his sound and musical direction. Having spent lots of time with him as a youth, he recalls that the radio was always on and set to the country station – which has certainly lent itself to his current sound.

The rest of the 5-track EP that is Sing’n Pick’n Cowboy offers a vibrant array of Americana and country infused tracks that further exemplifies Casper’s resonating, modern sound.
