Scott Clay Insists On Taking It Easy On Ourselves Through Tough Times In Vulnerable New Music Video ‘The Painter’

A hazy and warm filter follows Scott Clay into an empty church. Sunlight beams through the windows and onto the pews where Clay sits. He breaks into his latest single, “The Painter.”

It’s a simple yet effective video featuring Clay, his guitar, and his evoking voice, altogether creating a tender, heartfelt scene. Towards the end of the song and video, a lit candelabra enters the scene, adding to the ambiance and weight of the song.

“The Painter” prominently features acoustic guitar and stripped back piano, along with a subtle ring of electric guitar. Clay’s vocals build like they’re on the edge of a breakdown in the verses, as his voice has a natural kinesis that leads into a beautiful clear falsetto in the choruses.

The lyrics advise to “take it easy on yourself” as a piano and acoustic build follow, breaking into an electric guitar lick, and resolving to a big pick-up in the second verse. The tight harmonies in the chorus resonate strong, soaking up the vulnerability of the progression and producing a grand yet subtle sound of emotion.
