Highway Natives Yearn For The Open Road & Fresh Horizons On Rollicking New Single ‘Change In My Life’

With the production magic of a famed 😉 studio in Alabama, Highway Natives are back with a single bursting with familiar Southern rock charm and Americana flair.

“Change In My Life,” which dropped this past Friday April 26th, gives listeners a taste of what’s to come from the Nashville band’s anticipated new album, Hello Sunrise.

Hello Sunrise, recorded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, at the legendary FAME Studios, marks a new chapter for the Americana roots-rock band as they reinvent their sound and forge ahead with a fresh band lineup. The core of the band remains in Brandon Moore (vox, guitar), Jordan Miller (vox, acoustic guitar), and Matt Drummey (background vox, guitar), now with the help of new bassist Antjuan Johnson and drummer Andrew Cusanelli.

“Change In My Life” intros with a charming, playful electric guitar before settling into a groovy rock n’ roll beat, soon introducing the strong vocals of Moore. The lead singer’s voice rings full and clear, with a tinge of country sweetness that adds juice to every lyric. “I think I might like Arizona / Maybe the coast of California / A Colorado Rocky Mountain skyline / Let it all go no I wouldn’t think twice / For some change in my life,” goes the catchy, anthemic chorus, expressing a common sentiment of change and the inability to outrun one’s own troubles.

With Miller and Drummey lifting the track to new heights with their epic, swampy guitar playing and the rhythm section doing their part, the track harkens to a much welcomed Lynyrd Skynyrd or Allman Brothers era.

The new single stays true to the band’s strong country rock sound, and complementing the melody is the vivid imagery and common ode to the open American road. “Those big old Appalachians / Feeling more like walls,” sings Moore of feeling trapped in a place one once loved. “Howling at the Prairie moon” is another standout lyric that helps paint a vivid picture of the country’s vast landscape and the cosmic connections it has on us. 

“Change In My Life” stands as a modern Southern rock anthem touching on a subject that will long reside in most humans, especially those that possess the gift of music: wanderlust and seeing what else is out there. The track allows listeners a glimpse into the band’s own journey as they develop and morph into a new era.
