Country artist Vincent Neil Emerson is cruising through spring on a wave of new singles ahead of his upcoming record, Blue Stars.
Just this past Friday April 3rd he released his latest single, “Dark Horse,” but it was his March single, “Livin’ in the Past,” that caught our ear. It is the third single from the project, and reflects on the feeling of longing for simpler times in a fast-moving world.
Emerson reminds us all to slow down and enjoy present times with his warm lyricism. The vibe is mellow and country roots driven with a nod to some of his musical heroes. “’Livin’ in the past’ is a song that’s sonically inspired by Bob Dylan and The Band. I’ve always been a fan of genre blending, and that’s what this song is. A mixture of country, soul, and folk stylings,” he states.

“I’ve known the good and bad/ And everything between/ Ain’t it funny how the time goes, passin’ by,” he sings in a verse. Overall, the tune is an easy listen with nostalgic reminiscence.
Since the start of his career in 2019, Emerson has been known as a refreshing voice in the modern country music landscape. He was born in East Texas and raised by a single mother, leading him to become a hard-working and inspired songwriter. The blend of his past and present tales paint a relatable picture for listeners across the board.
Blue Stars will serve as the highly anticipated, fourth album of Emerson’s discography. The entire project will be available on April 17th via La Honda Records. It was recorded at Gnome Studios in Nashville, TN, with producer Patrick Lyons and Emerson’s touring band, The Red Horse Band.
Emerson is currently on tour promoting the upcoming album, and can be seen across the country in the cities below.
