Not every Friday the 13th has to be unlucky — just ask British Columbia’s Tryg Strand, who released his newest single, “Love and War,” which is officially out on streaming platforms.
“Love and War” serves as a natural next chapter in the songwriter’s career, diving into a reflection of trying to balance the highs and lows of daily life. “I don’t sleep much anymore / Too worried about love and war / Just looking forward to my morning fix / Tall black coffee generally does the trick / To getting me on my way / To taking on the day / Cause I got some demons that I’m trying to slay,” Strand sings in verse one. The expressive guitar work draws out a push and pull vibe for audiences to feel as they listen.
Releases preceding “Love and War” include “I 90,” “Gypsy Queen,” “Rat Race,” and many others.
Strand grew up around music in British Columbia and began touring at a young age. Throughout his middle school years, he traveled alongside others in a ukulele band, playing places across BC and Hawaii.
Aside from his musical talents, Strand pursued a scholarship playing high level hockey. He played professionally in Sweden, relying on songwriting as a constant source of release along the way. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic brought his athletic career to a halt, and he transitioned into doing music full time. His chops have further developed since, as he’s cut his teeth playing across Western Canada at festivals such as Flats Fest, Snowflake Festival, and Steamboat Mountain Music Festival.
Today, he is known for blending a mix of rock, blues, country, and folk elements together to create soulful sounding songs. His shows command attention, inviting listeners to meet him at the crossroads. The stories told by Strand’s voice are lived-in, honest, and heartfelt.
