PREMIERE: Dive Bar Honky Tonkers Sparkle Carcass Reflect On Past Mistakes & Heartaches On New Single ‘Rainy Day Head’

Hardly done rockin’ the dive bars, Sparkle Carcass is back with a second new single leading up to their new record, Maraschino Chevy. It’s a follow up to their last good time havin’ single, “Sippin’ On A Cool One”, a song that was a catchy celebration of nostalgic southern living.

“Rainy Day Head” combines the dive bar jukebox energy of the previous single “Sippin’ On A Cool One,” but with a more somber twist. The song manages to be as infectious as the previous single, but it’s written just as much for the loner as it is for the dance floor.

The band really hones in on the sorrow that comes with lost relationships, and with a “Dead Flowers”-type energy, lead vocalist Cody Palmer sings, “Thinkin ‘bout what you meant to me / Thinkin ‘bout how I done you wrong.” The song was born out of Palmer’s struggle as a new resident in a big city trying to figure out his next move. “’Rainy Day Head got written on one of those Tuesdays or Wednesdays when it was of course raining outside, and I was probably bummed out about some bad date I’d been on and having just enough money to get by,” he states.

The lyrics themselves are deeply tied to his own experience, expressing both the remorse of relational loss and what it’s like to sit with a keen sense of loneliness. It’s one many listeners will relate to, merging its timeless honky tonk message with its joyful meld of country rock n’ roll melodies.

This new single is but a taste of the colorful rays of emotion on the upcoming album, Maraschino Chevy. Releasing October 17th, the album will further explore themes of love during hard times, all with Sparkle Carcass’s signature sun-baked, alt-country sound. Hardly satisfied with mere melancholy, the album will also feature songs about the hope that comes with writing music about life’s ups and downs.

Sparkle Carcass will be hitting the road to spread their message, hitting up cities from Kansas City down to Texas and some in between in the first few weeks of October. Their album release show will take place at The Hideout in Chicago on November 14th.

On the cusp of the release of their sophomore LP, Sparkle Carcass is continuing to give listeners a damn good time. With their honest lyricism and instant appeal their bringing the alt-country every listener needs when life is getting them down.
