Last Thursday, February 19th, Roswell, Georgia’s very own Vincent Mason visited Knoxville on his first headlining “There I Go” tour. Sponsored by Monster Outbreak, the show took place at famous local venue, The Mill and Mine.
Before Mason took the stage, singer-songwriter Cole Goodwin graced the crowd with his strong, textured voice. He brought an old country vibe with a new country sound. Most well known for his songs “Girlfriend’s Got A Boyfriend,” “Dust On The Dance Floor,” and “Messin’ With My Mind,” Goodwin was the perfect artist to get the audience primed before the headlining act.

When Mason eventually took the stage, he began his set with an eye-catching silhouette introduction. With the use of multi-colored lighting and drums, suspense was built up until the first strum of his guitar on the song, “Anything Took Everything.” The flow of the show continued with this tone while he cruised through “American Spirit” and “Painkiller,” both tunes that brought listeners into a state of freedom within the crowd. To a much obliged audience he quipped, “This is the type of crowd you want to play for.”
A highlight of this concert was when Goodwin returned to the stage to join Mason in a “countrified” cover of John Mellencamp’s “Hurt So Good.” It was an impeccable moment to signify the middle of the show and revamp the energy in the crowd. I overheard a fellow audience member state, “I feel like this guy could sell out stadiums in his 30s if he keeps it up,” after hearing the rendition.

Mason plays with grit, honesty, and versatility that draws crowds in. His vocal skills and instrumental prowess continued to impress, as he played upbeat songs such as “Train Of Thought,” which required him to divide focus among multiple aspects of performance. The harmonica portion of his set is always a crowd-pleaser, and does not fail to impress. As the show started to wrap, he played his three most popular numbers, “Hell Is A Dancefloor,” “Damned If I Do,” and “There I Go” to leave the fans on a high note.
Overall, Vincent Mason is an incredible singer-songwriter who has already reached great heights, and is nothing short of a star in the making. The 25-year-old has proven to come a long way from writing songs in his Ole Miss dorm just a few short years ago.
