Indie alt-rocker EG Vines has made his triumphant return to the scene with the release of his newest badass single, “Maserati Grin.”
Released earlier this week on St. Patrick’s Day, the Nashville-based artist put out this track as a second single off of his upcoming album, Kaleidoscope Dream, set to hit streaming this June.
It’s angsty, honest, and sure to paint a picture in the mind of listeners.
Vines describes “Maserati Grin” as a tune that just “poured out” of him. He turned up his amp, started riffing, and the lyrics came to life. “It’s equal parts self-loathing and commentary on the ills of modern society,” he states. “But as most EG Vines songs do, it leaves at least a glimmer of optimism for the listener.”
The line “I don’t wanna be / Everyone else’s bitch / A fingernail to scratch your mother’s Monday itch / I’m tired of living in this world things fell apart so quick / A fake smile, it’s a Maserati Grin,” quickly displays the message of the song and pulls no punches, as Vines is known to do. Overall, the song is very lyric-driven with a balanced use of heavy electric guitar grit and his signature vocal strength.
The Arkansas native has a unique penchant for channeling the melodic alt-rock of the ’90s paired with the raw energy of the punk scene. Vines looks to continue to push boundaries and bend norms with his upcoming album and more approaching singles.
Along with the majority of Kaleidoscope Dream, “Maserati Grin” was recorded in Sheffield, Alabama at Ivy Manor Studios. The project was co-produced by Dan Hannon and the late Tim Very can be heard on drums, as well as Jimbo Hart on bass. It follows his 2023 album, Dance Moves. Vines and his band currently have a Thursday night residency at The Underdog in Nashville.
