A haunting lullaby meets romantic strings in folk singer-songwriter Joyce Prescher’s latest single, “Sleep Now”.
Prescher’s silky voice combined with smooth harmonies and carefully crafted lyrics lulls the listener into an almost hypnotic state in this cinematic and dramatic new song. Released March 27th, “Sleep Now” is the lead single off of her upcoming sophomore album, which is waiting in the wings and set for release later this year.
Originally from The Netherlands, Prescher is now based in Melbourne, Australia, and is gradually earning quite the name for herself in the folk and Americana scene. Having released her debut album, Home, in 2017, she has won the praise of many, including having the album named by PBS as a Top Ten Album upon its release.
Prescher has taken her music to prominent stages, having joined a show called Keep the Circle Unbroken in 2020. Since joining, she performed for large audiences at places such as Memo Music Hall, the 2022 Port Fairy Folk Festival, and joined for their regional tour in 2021. Additionally, she performed later in 2021 at three sold-out shows paying tribute to the late Justin Townes Earle at the beloved Brunswick Ballroom.
On top of that, Prescher has shared the stage with many well-known Australian artists, including Tim Rogers, Kylie Auldist, Mick Thomas, and XANI. She just recently completed a tour as part of the lineup for Sing a Song of Sixpence.
“Sleep Now” immediately strikes a chord with the chilling and magnetic violin, which is an instrumental focal point throughout the song. There is deep poetic value in the song, and as mentioned, harnesses serious cinematic quality. It feels gentle but brooding, and if this is any indication of what’s to be expected on Prescher’s album to come, we’ll be eager to hear.
